2022 EU-Taiwan Seminar on Design Protection

Industrial design imbues creativity into a product’s appearance. Nowadays, we can observe the development of our civilization through products like iPhone, Nintendo Switch, the Windows operating system, and many others. In order to facilitate greater participation in design innovation, outstanding designs must be safeguarded by a robust design protection system.

In Taiwan, designs are mainly protected under the Patent Act. The European Union, in addition to copyright protection, offers a wide variety of methods for design protection, including Registered and Unregistered Community designs. To facilitate the bilateral exchange of intellectual property rights-related discussions between the EU and Taiwan, the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) has partnered with Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) to host the 2022 EU-Taiwan Seminar on Design Protection. The seminar will focus on differences in the EU's and Taiwan's approach to design protection, the challenges and opportunities arising from global digitalization, and the interaction between copyright and design protection. Everyone interested in the design protection systems of Taiwan or the EU is welcome to register.
